Smart choices during the sales season - how to avoid bargain regrets

During the sales period it can get very busy at the stores and you may feel the urge to make rushed decisions, you may have the last piece in your size in the changing room. Also the discounts may feel very appealing of course, you can sometimes score items with 50% or more discount. This can be a strong sales argument, but in no means will it guarantee that the item will be a good choice. Follow our tips for remaining cool & collected, during the sales, and avoid purchases you will later regret.

1. MAKE A SHOPPING LIST

We often use a shopping list while going shopping for groceries. It is best to make a shopping list for clothes too. This will not be a list to fullfill in one day, but a list for several months, or for a year. Buy only what is on the list, and make no sacrifices and settle for something else instead. This will make your shopping slower, but you will probably not make much mistakes.

2. 24 HOUR RULE

This is a hard one during the sales, have to admit. But do try. Leave the item for 24 hours and if you still really want to get it, go back to the store and buy it. If you feel like you need it less than you thought yesterday, just leave it.

3. RULE OF MINIMUM 3 COMBINATIONS

Keep in mind what you already have. Can you make nice combination which you would love to wear with the new item. If there is very few combinations possible, leave the item and look further. If you can think of 3 or more really nice combinations, it can be a smart buy. If it is more than 5, even better!

4. THE LIFESTYLE TEST

Does the item pass your lifestyle test? Would you wear the item you are considering during your typical day? For example: you will hardly change your daily life in order to wear appealing pair of high heels, if you otherwise always go for sneakers.

5. ASK A FRIEND

If you really do not know, send a photo to a trusted friend. It will help you decide. Be clear to choose a friend who will not support all your decisions, but who dares to be critical. The last decision is up to you, but it can help to discuss it with someone.
